Abstract: This research was conducted
by the still variability of data about students’ responding activity when
learning in a class. Self confidence and students’ perception were two factors assumed
to affect responding activity in learning. This research is aimed to describe the contribution of the self
confidence and students’ perception towards responding activity in learning. This research applied quantitative method
with a descriptive correlational. The population of this research were
480 students of SMA Negeri 8 Padang in grade XI and XII, and the samples were 218 students
that were chosen by using proportional stratified random sampling. The instrument of the research was a
likert scale. Validity test
result of this self confidence’s instrument was 0.441, students’ perception
about responding activity was 0.442, and responding activity in learning was
0.672. Reliability test result of self confidence’s instrument was 0.886,
students’ perception about responding activity was 0.801, and responding
activity in learning was 0.846. The data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics,
simple and multiple regression. The
research findings indicated that: (1) averagely, description of the self confidence
was at high level, (2) students’ perception about responding activity was at
positive level, (3) responding activity
in learning was categorized at high level, (4) there was 7.5% (R= 0.275, on
significance 0.000) in self confidence contribution towards responding activity, (5) there was 7.2% (R= 0.268,
significance 0.000) in students’ perception contribution towards responding
activity, (6) there was 11% (R= 0.332, on significance 0.000) in contribution
together with self confidence and students’ perception towards responding
activity in learning. The implication of this research can be made as a need
assessment to make a program of guidance and counseling service in SMA Negeri 8
Padang.
