Abstract: Undergraduate
students of Guidance and Counseling (GC) as the candidate of GC teachers are
required to have good ability to increase students’ self control. GC students’
ability is built by several aspects, knowledge, attitudes, and skills. This
study aims to describe: (1) the ability of GC undergraduate students at Riau
University to increase students’ self control, (2) the ability of GC
undergraduate students at Sultan Syarif Kasim Riau State Islamic University to
increase students’ self control, and (3) the difference of GC undergraduate
students’ ability between Riau University and Sultan Syarif Kasim Riau State Islamic
University to increase students’ self control. This research applied
quantitative approach with descriptive comparative method. The populations of
this research were the last semester of GC undergraduate students at Riau
University and Sultan Syarif Kasim Riau State Islamic University. The sample
was chosen by using simple random sampling technique. The instrument of this
research was rating scale model. The first and the second research purposes
were analyzed by using percentage technique, then the third purpose was
analyzed by t-test. The research findings were: (1) according to GC students’
perspective of Riau University, their ability to increase students’ self
control is included in high category, (2) according to GC students’ perspective
of Sultan Syarif Kasim Riau State Islamic University, their ability to increase
students’ self control is included in high category, and (3) there was no
significant difference of GC undergraduate students’ ability between Riau
University and Sultan Syarif Kasim Riau State Islamic University to increase
students’ self control.
